Gardening

I started growing arugula in the summer of 2022 while working on my automated plant irrigator. My initial goal was to understand plants better so I could work to automate them, but I also gained an appreciation for gardening and watching a plant grow over a season.

I’m interested in growing food in my garden to cook the freshest meals imaginable. I also find watching the progress of plant growth peaceful, and it’s a nice break from work sometimes.

This summer, I continued my automation efforts indoors with basil, oregano, parsley, and basil, but I also started growing tomatoes and peppers outdoors (completely manually). Next summer, I plan to expand my garden even more and learn from the mistakes I made this year.

Cooking

I’ve been cooking since I got my first apartment, but over time I’ve gotten more passionate about it. I really enjoy making food from scratch and taking time to ensure the meal is quality. I enjoy baking too, and with both of those, I’ve made breads, cookies, pulled pork, cinnamon rolls (shown), gyros w/ pita and more.

I have combined my passion for gardening and cooking by using ingredients that I have grown in recipes. Cooking with fresh ingredients is always exciting, and I can always taste the difference.

One of my favorite things about cooking and baking is sharing it with my friends and family. It’s a great opportunity to gather a group of people you care about and show your appreciation for them.

Biking + Running

I’ve been running and biking since I was a kid, and it’s been a great hobby to keep up as I get older. Not only has it been a great way to stay in shape, but it’s an activity I’ve been able to do by myself and with friends.

I used to mountain bike a lot, and I’d like to get back into it, but for now I mainly bike with friends or to commute. I try to run in 5K’s whenever I get the chance since it gives me something to train for.

I’d love to run a marathon and/or the Pittsburgh Dirty Dozen, but I’ve got a lot of training to do before I can do either of those.

Music

I started playing bass when I was 9, and I’ve loved it ever since. I started in my school’s orchestra, but eventually learned to play jazz and other genres.

I’ve had the pleasure to play with some really talented musicians in all genres, especially during my time in the Pitt jazz band.

My favorite part of music is the chance to play with others. It’s a collaborative art that allows you to bounce ideas off others and adapt your playing to match or contrast others.
